조록나무(조록나무과)

한라산의 표고 1,100m 이하에서 자생한다. 주로 곶자올 숲에서 만나 볼 수 있는데

자생의 조록나무를 만나면 수고가 너무 높아서 꽃이나 열매를 담기 어렵다.

해서 아직 꽃을 담은 게 없는데 수목원에 적당한 높이의 조록나무가 씨앗을 버린 껍질을 가득 달고 있다.

기억을  해두었다가 꽃이 필 때 쯤 수목원에 들러 봐야겠다.

 

꽃은 잡성화로서 화관없이 붉은 꽃받침으로만 구성된 작은 꽃이 4~5월경에 핀다.

총상화서는 액생하고 성모가 있으며 길이 8cm정도이고 꽃받침은 5~6개로 갈라지며 피침형이고 겉에 갈색의 성모가 있다.

 

 

 

잎은 길이 3-8cm, 폭 1.5-3cm로서 호생하며 두껍고 타원형 또는 좁은 도란형이며 첨두 또는 둔두이고 예저이며

혁질이고 가장자리는 밋밋하며 광택이 나고 양면에 털이 없으며 탁엽이 일찍 떨어진다. 붉나무처럼 잎 표면에 불록볼록 충영이 잘 생긴다.

 

 

 

 

삭과는 길이 1~1.5cm이고 목질이며 겉에 밀모가 있고 9-10월에 익으며 2개로 갈라져서 종자가 나온다
