울릉도에서 만났던 푸조나무를 곶자왈 숲에서 다시 만난다.
이미 잎이 다 떨어졌지만 수고가 높으니 열매와 잎이 달려 있던 들 담을 수도 없었겠지만
전라도, 경상도 및 남부지방의 표고 700m 이하와 경기도 및 북부지방에서 자란다.
6월에 울릉도에서 담았던 푸조나무이다.
잎은 얇고 호생하며 난형 또는 좁은 난형이고 긴 점첨두이며 넓은 예저이고 길이 5-10cm, 나비 3-6cm로서 가장자리에 예리한 톱니가 있다.
표면은 매우 거칠고 뒷면에 짧은 복모가 있으며, 기부부터 3행맥의 모양을 이루고 측맥은 7-12쌍으로서 잎의 맥은 팽나무보다 더 많으며 곧게 뻗어서 톱니에 완전히 닿는다. 팽나무속의 나무는 측맥이 거치에 도달하지 못한다. 어린 가지에는 작고 둥근 갈색의 피목이 많고 털이 있다.
높이20m, 지름 1m이며 수피는 담회갈색이고 세로 방향으로 작은 피목이 배열되어 얕은 줄로 되며,
그 줄에 따라 갈라져서 수피 조각이 떨어진다.
