폭나무(느릅나무과 팽나무속)

2017. 11. 초순. 남도.

 

열매가 황갈색으로 익는 팽나무에 비하여 노랗게 익는 녀석으로 한국특산식물이다.

직벽에 가까운 경사를 가진 산 아래라서 접근이 불가하여 가찹게 담지는 못하였지만

이맘 때 쯤 팽나무는 붉은갈색을 띠고 있을 터인데 이렇게 노란 열매를 달고 있는 걸 보면 노랑팽나무가 아닐까 생각했는데

노랑팽나무는 강원도와 함경도, 단양, 영주 등 중부 이북에 자생하는 종이라 이 녀석을 폭나무로 수정한다
