한가지 수종을 확인하기 위하여 남쪽으로 내려 왔다. 목적지인 통영으로 가는 길에 잠시 거제도에 들렀다.
손바닥만한 섬에 둥근바위솔이 아직 싱싱할까 싶어서 들렀더니 이젠 내년에 보잔다.
섬에서 나오려다 말고 노랑 열매를 달고 있는 나무가 한 두그루가 아니라 다시 쳐다보다가 화들짝 놀랐다
이 시기에 팽나무 열매는 적갈색으로 변해 있을 터인데 이 녀석은 아직도 노란색이었기에 노랑팽나무라는 생각에 황급히 다가갔다.
섬으로 들어 올 때에도 이 녀석 열매를 흘낏 보긴 했는데 아그배나무 열매인가 보다 하고 지났던 터라
비탈로 올라가서 나뭇가지를 당겨보니 열매가 작고 어린 가지에 잔털이 많다.
헌데....집에 와서 종자 사진을 담으려고 살피다가 열매와 열매자루에 털이 많은 게 아무래도 폭나무가 아닐까 하는 생각이 들었다
잎만 달려 있다면 뭐 헷갈릴 일도 없는데 잎이 다 떨어져 버렸으니.....
정보를 검색해보니 노랑팽나무는 '한국특산식물로 강원도의 태기산과 함경북도의 명천군에서 자라는 낙엽교목이며
작은 나뭇가지는 붉은갈색 또는 밤색이며 털이 있으나 점차 없어진다' 거나
다른 분포지로 강원도 양양군 충청북도 단양군, 경상북도 영주시, 울릉군이 소개되고 있다
노랑팽나무 일년생 가지는 홍갈색 또는 밤색으로 털이 있으나 차츰 없어지며,
열매는 둥글고 등황색이며 길이 13mm, 나비 10mm정도이고 먹을 수 있으며, 22∼27mm의 과경 끝에 달린다고 한다.
이 정도의 열매 크기이면 검팽나무 열매와 거의 비슷하가도 보면 될 것이다
노랑팽나무는 남부지역이 아니라 중부 이북 지역에 자생한다는 것이고 열매도 1cm정도로 큰 편이니
이 녀석은 노랑팽나무로 볼 수 없을 것 같다.
결국 이 녀석은 열매가 작고 남부지역에 살고 어린 가지와 열매자루 , 열매에 털이 밀생하는 것으로 봐서
폭나무로 정리해야 하겠다고 결론을 내렸다.
지난 번 완도에서 멀찍이서 담은 녀석도 결국은 노랑팽나무가 아니라 폭나무로 봐야 할 것 같다.
노랑팽나무는 언제 쯤 보게 될까?
어린 가지와 겨울눈에 잔털이 밀생하고 열매자루에도 털이 보인다
노랑팽나무는 어린 가지의 털이 처음에 있다가 사라진다고 한다
열매 표면에도 거의 털이 탈락했지만 털이 있다는 걸 확인할 수 있다.
팽나무속 중에서 열매와 열매자루에 털이 있는 건 폭나무 뿐이다
이 녀석 열매 크기는 5-7mm 정도이고 열매자루는 1cm-1.6cm 정도이니
노랑팽나무 열매 지름 1cm와 열매자루 22∼27mm의 길이와는 상이한 크기라 노랑팽나무가 될 수 없다
동아의 부드러운 털이다
