경상북도산림과학박물관 마당에 서 있는 이 녀석은 팽나무란 이름표를 달고 있다.
본관 건물 앞에 팽나무 2그루와 함께, 참느릅나무, 살구나무, 감나무, 이팝나무, 고로쇠나무 가 심겨져 있는데
팽나무 2그루 중에 이 녀석은 열매가 검게 익고 열매자루가 팽나무보다 조금 더 길고 열매 크기도 약간 더 큰 좀풍게나무이다.
오래 전 열매가 검게 익는다는 것만으로 검팽나무라 생각하고 있었는데
잎 꼬리가 길게 빠지고 열매 크기도 확실하게 더 크며 열매자루가 긴 검팽나무와는 다르다는 걸 확인하고
결국 좀풍게나무로 결론을 내렸다.
헌데 이곳에 산림과학박물관이 건립되면서 조경수가 잘못 납품이 되어 좀풍게나무가 팽나무로 둔갑을 하게 된 것 같다
좀풍게나무 : 열매자루가 20mm 정도로 어린 가지와 엽병에 털이 없다. 팽나무 열매보다 약간 더 크고 열매가 검게 익는다
팽나무 : 열매자루가 5~15mm이고 어린가지와 엽병에 털이 있다. 열매가 황적색으로 익는다
꽃이 필때는 팽나무나 좀풍게나무나 다른 점을 찾기 어렵다
암꽃은 양성화로 새순 위쪽에, 수꽃은 새순 아랫쪽에 주로 달린다.
