기수초(명아주과 나문재속) Suaeda malacosperma H. Hara

민물과 바닷물이 만나는 기수지역 해안에 주로 자생한다.

 

기수초는 밑부분에서 가지가 직각으로 어긋나는 것이 특징이다. 또한 기수초는 칠면초보다 늦은 9월에 개화한다.

칠면초 잎의 단면이 원형이거나 아원형인데 기수초는 단면이 납작한 삼각형이다.

해홍나물은 열매가 원형인 데 반해 기수초는 별 모양이다.

기수초는 해홍나물에 비해 가지가 줄기의 중앙부에서 갈라진다.

2001년 영흥도와 신도에서 처음 발견하여 한반도 미기록종으로 발표하면서 지속적인 기수의 영향을 받는 바닷가에 분포하는 특징을 반영하여 기수초라고 이름 붙였다.
