산유자나무(이나무과 산유자나무속) 수꽃

 이맘 때 쯤 제주도에 내려온 적이 있었지만 다른 녀석들은 좇아다니느라고 산유자나무 꽃을 담은 적이 없다.

올해에는 꼭 보리라 작정을 하고 산유자 꽃이 필 때에 맞추어서 내려오게 되었다.

 

가장 쉽게 만날 수 있는 곳이 수목원이라 이튿날 우선 한라수목원에 들렀다.

예상대로 산유자나무 꽃이 한창 피고 있었고 모두 수그루라서 바닥에는 이미 노랗게 꽃이 떨어져 있었다..

 

암그루가 있나 싶어서 살펴 보았지만 모두 수그루 뿐이다.

하기사 제주의 꽃동무도 암그루를 아직 찾아놓지 못하였다고 하니....

 

꽃잎이 없고 꽃받침 열편은 4~6개, 3mm의 수술이 여러 개 있다.

화반에 황색으로 보이는 것이 아마 선체가 아닐까 싶은데 꽃이 핀 나무에 파리 떼가 무척 많이 날아 들었었다.

 

4~5쌍의 측맥이 있고 엽질이 빳빳하며 잎자루는 2~5mm 정도이다

어린 나무의 가지나 맹아지에는 잎자루 기부에 길다란 가시가 있는데

성목의 잔 가지에는 가시가 나타나지 않아서 비슷한 사스레피나무와 혼돈할 수도 있다.

 

큰 줄기의 수피에는 날카로운 가시가 많이 있는데 이 가시는 가지가 가시화 된 것으로 나중에 가지로 성장한다
