산유자나무(이나무과 산유자나무속) Xylosma japonica (Thunb.) A.Gray ex H.Ohashi

제주도와 남해 섬지역에 산자락에 자생하는 암수딴그루 상록이다.

성목의 잔가지 잎과 유목의 잎은 형태가 약간 차이가 있는데

유목의 잎은 끝이 뾰족한 광난형으로 사스레피나무 잎과 비슷하다.

 

유목과 맹아지 가지와 장령목 원 기둥에 큰 가시가 엉겨 있는데 매우 날카로워서 찔리면 통증이 대단하다.

장령목 위쪽 잔가지에는 가시가 없고 엽형도 차이가 있어서 잔가지만 보면 산유자나무인지 알아채기 쉽지 않다

 

이름만 산유자나무일 뿐 유자나무와는 전혀 다른 녀석으로 열매는 팥알보다 작고 둥글며 까맣게 익는다.
