푼지나무의 기근을 촬영하면서 담쟁이덩굴의 흡반을 제대로 보고자 카메라를 들고 도청 주변 석벽을 찾았다.
초겨울을 앞두고 있는 11월 하순으로 접어드는 도시의 벽에 담쟁이덩굴이 그림을 그리고 있었다.
이 녀석은 줄기가 담벽이나 나무, 바위를 기어오르면서 잎과 마주나는 덩굴손이 뿌리처럼 변하여
문어 빨판 같이 생긴 흡반을 만들어서 주변 물체에 압착시켜서 덩굴을 지탱시켜 준다.
기근과는 다른 덩굴손이 변한 흡착근이 생기는 것이다.
언젠가 창문에 붙어 있던 청개구리 발가락 끝에 붙어 있던 귀여운 흡반이 떠오른다
그렇다고 담쟁이덩굴에 기근이 없는 게 아니다.
굵은 덩굴은 약간의 수분이 유지되는 석벽 틈새 어두운 곳이나
지면 가까운 곳에 많은 기근을 내어서 석벽에 줄기를 부착시키고 있었다.
줄기의 기근은 덩굴의 지지 역할과 소량의 수분 섭취 정도의 역할을 할 것이다.
지면과 가까운 곳의 굵은 줄기에는기근이 많이 나와 있었다.
몇 가닥의 뿌리는 지면으로 내려가서 일반적인 땅속 뿌리가 되기도 하였다.

아직도 미련을 버리지 못하고 멀어지는 가을을 부여잡고 있다
