여러해살이 기생식물로 엽록소가 없으므로 전체가 약간 자갈색을 띤 흰색이다. 

뿌리줄기는 짧고 갈라진다. 너도밤나무 낙엽 썩은 부식물에 자라는 부생식물이다.

 

줄기는 곧추서며, 비늘조각이 드문드문 달리고 높이는 10~30cm에 이른다.
