차나무(차나무과 동백나무속) Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze

완도로 들어 가는 길에 다산 초당을 들렀다가 주변 숲에서 야생의 차나무를 만났다.

차나무를 본 적이 없던 터라 처음 보는 잎에 고개를 갸웃거리다가

다산이 숲에서 찻잎을 따다가 차를 즐겼다는 사실을 접하면서 그제서야 이 녀석이 차나무란 걸 알고 무릎을 쳤다. 

전라남도 남해쪽에는 차밭이 유명한데 이렇게 자생의 차나무를 만나다니 뜻밖의 수확에 기분이 좋다

 

묵은 열매는 이미 다 벌어져서 종자가 떨어져 버렸도 좁쌀만한 햇열매가 생긴 걸 확인하였다.

초겨울에 왔더라면 꽃을 볼 수 있었을텐데 아쉽다

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

차나무는 10월부터 꽃을 피워서 이듬해 10월 경에 열매가 익는다.

익은 열매는 다 벌어져서 종자가 떨어졌다.

 

 

 

종자가 제대로 성숙하지 못한 쭉쟁이 열매가 달린 것도 반가워서

 

 

 

 

암술도 미처 떨어지지 않은 마악 생기기 시작한 햇열매다
