동백나무(차나무과 동백나무속) Camellia japonica L.

긴 겨울의 통증이 피빛으로 피어남이련가? 동백의 봄은 고통의 결정체이다.

동백은 언제 보아도 홑저고리의 수줍은 모습이 정감이 간다.  

 

꽃은 양성화로 적색이고 1개씩 액생 또는 정생하며 화경이 없고 반 정도 벌어지며 소포는 둥글고 겉에 짧은 백색 털이 있다.

꽃받침잎은 5개이며 길이 1-2cm로서 난상 원형이고 꽃잎은 5-7개가 밑에서 합쳐지며 길이 3-5cm로서 수술과도 합쳐지고

수술은 노란색으로 90~100개가 있다. 꽃밥이 황색이고 자방에 털이 없으며 암술대가 3개로 갈라진다. 4월에 많이 개화한다.

 

 

 

 

잎이 호생하고 타원형 또는 긴 타원형이며 점첨두이고 넓은 예저이며 파상의 잔톱니가 있고 길이 5~12cm, 나비 3~7cm로서

표면은 짙은 녹색이며 광택이 나고 뒷면은 황록색이며 엽병은 길이 2-15mm로서 털이 없다.
