붉나무(옻나무과)

가을 단풍이 가장 먼저 붉게 든다는 붉나무다.

낙엽수 중에서는 아마 가장 늦게 꽃이 필 것이다. 한쪽에서는 꽃이 피면서 열매가 익어가고 있다.

 

이 녀석의 열매에는 액체가 분비되는데 점점 고체 결정체로 바뀌면서 나중에는 하얗게 말라서 가루가 되는데

신맛과 짠맛을 가지고 있어서 어떤 곳에서는 소금나무라 부르기도 한다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

열매 겉에 하얀 결정체가 열매를 덮고 있다.

결정체의 맛을 보면 신맛보다는 짠맛이 강하게 느껴지는데

예전 산골에서는 이 붉나무 열매의 가루를 소금 대용으로 사용하기도 하였단다

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

잎에 만들어진 혹같은 벌레집은 오배자라 하여 귀중한 한약재로 이용을 하고 있다.
