돈네코 계곡으로 가려다가 방향을 틀었다.
9월에 들렀던 검양옻나무 자생의 모습을 다시 확인하고 싶어서.
늦은 11월 제주의 계절에는 이제사 검양옻나무가 붉게 단풍이 들고 있었다.
이 곳에도 산검양옻나무가 함께 섞여 있긴 하지만 검양옻나무는 산검양옻나무보다 잎이 좁고 끝이 길게 빠진 모습을 하고 있어서
멀리서 봐도 자잘한 느낌의 잎으로 검양옻나무란 걸 알 수가 있다.
숲의 검양이는 모두 10~20m 높이의 교목이라서 가까이 접근이 안된다.
그 중에 낮은 가지가 늘어져 있는 암그루에 접근을 했지만
가지끈 팔을 뻗쳐서 이 정도 밖에 담을 수가 없었다.
몇 그루가 자생하는가 싶어서 과수원 안으로 들어가서 둘레를 살피는데
과수원을 지키던 개가 마구 짖고 난리부르스를 친다.
"얌마~!! 너네 귤나무는 아무 관심도 없거든?"
과수원 주변에 붉은 단풍이 든 검양이가 제법 눈에 띈다. 아마도 십여 그루는 됨직하다.
산검양옻나무는 남부지역의 산과 제주도에서 흔하게 만나는데
이렇게 검양옻나무가 여러 그루 자생하는 곳을 살피니 그저 마음이 푸근하고 흐뭇하다.
