멍석딸기는 3장의 소엽을 가지고 있다. 맹아 줄기에서는 5장인 경우도 있다. 뒷면은 분백색이다
꽃잎은 모여서 위로 세워져 있다. 관찰한 바로 절~~때로 벌어지지 않았다.
산방화서 원추화서 또는 총상화서는 정생(頂生)하고 화경에 가시와 털이 있으며
꽃받침은 길이 7-8㎜로서 피침형이고 양면에 털이 있다. 꽃잎은 5장이고 적색이며 길이는 5㎜로서 위를 향하고
꽃받침보다 짧다.
잎은 호생하고 소엽은 길이 2~5cm로서 광란형 또는 도란형이고 둔두 예저이며
정소엽은 흔히 3개로 갈라지고 표면에 잔털이 있으며 뒷면에 백색 밀모가 있고 엽병에도 털이 나 있다.
줄기의 가시는 드물고
처음에는 곧게 서는 듯하지만 옆으로 뻗으며 갈고리 모양의 가시와 털이 흩어져 난다.
<사슨딸기>
이 녀석과 꽃과 잎이 꼭같지만 크기가 작은 <사슨딸기>란 녀석을 제주도에서 만났었다.
처음에는 나 역시 멍석딸기려니 하면서 무심히 넘기다가
잎이 하도 작은 게 이상하여 담아와서 확인해 보니 사슨딸기 였던 거다.
<멍덕딸기>
멍석딸기와 이름도 비슷하고 3소엽을 가진 멍덕딸기가 또 있다.
멍석딸기는 3출엽 중에 가운데 잎이 유난히 크지만
멍덕딸기는 세 잎의 크기가 비슷하고 끝이 길게 빠지며 줄기에 잔가시가 매우 많다.
멍덕딸기는 꽃이 희고 ㅎ완전하게 펼치지 않으며 화서가 아래로 고개를 숙인다.
꽃받침과 어린 줄기에 붉은 선모가 유난하다.
꽃받침은 길게 뾰족해지고 선모가 밀생하며, 꽃잎은 백색으로 꽃받침보다 짧다.
멍덕딸기의 줄기에는 가시와 선모가 빡빡하게 있다
<곰딸기>
헌데 멍덕딸기는 정작 곰딸기와 더 비슷하다.
잎이 3소엽인데 가운데 정소엽이 확실하게 크고 잎을 길게 빠지지 않았다.
멍덕딸기의 화서는 아래로 고개를 숙이는데 곰딸기는 위로 고개 쳐들고 있으며 붉은 잔가시가 빽빽하다.
