새박(박과 새박속) Melothria japonica (Thunb.) Maxim. ex Cogn.

남부지역에서 흔하게 보이던 녀석이 안동 주변에서도 나타나기 시작하였다.

 

남매들이 모여서 부모님 산소에 풀내리기와 추석 성묘를 하러 선산에 들렀다.

풀내리기를 기다리자니 숲 모기들이 얼마나 극성스럽게 달려드는지 가만히 서 있지를 못한다

 

모기 떼를 피해서 주변의 풀숲을 살피는데 복사나무에 대롱거리는 새박 열매를 발견하고 깜짝 놀랐다

이 골짜기에 고깔닭의장풀,제주사마귀풀에 이어 새박이라는 남부지역의 식물이 나타난 것이다.

 

이태 전에 가까운 예천에서 새박을 발견하고 놀랐더랬는데

지난 8월 안동댐 공원에서도 꽃을 피우고 있는 덩굴을 만났고 이 곳까지 벌써 세번 째 장소이다

 

새박은 우리나라 남부지방, 제주도에 주로 자생한다.

그런데 중부지역 안동에 자주 나타난다는 것은 지구 온난화의 영향으로

남부지역 식물이 점점 북상한다는 징조로 볼 수 밖에.

그런데 유독 이 골짜기에 남부지역 식물들이 모여들까?

 

뚜껑덩굴에 비해서 수술이 3개이며, '새알처럼 생긴 박'이라는 뜻에서 국명이 유래했다.
