왜개연(수련과 개연꽃속) 열매 Nuphar pumila (Timm) DC.

남개연은 암술머리가 붉어서 다른 개연꽃속과 쉽게 구분이 된다

남개연과 왜개연은 암술머리의 수에서도 차이가 나는데 남개연은 8개, 왜개연은 10~20개이다.

 

지난 해 여기서 담은 녀석이 여름에 꽃이 필 때는 암술머리가 붉지 않았었는데 9월 하순의 모습을 보면 붉은 기운이 있다.

아마 자방에 남아 있던 암술머리가 열매가 익어가면서 갈색으로 변한 것이 아닌가 싶다.

 

그래도 혹시나 남개연이 아닐까 의심된다면 암술머리 수를 확인해 볼 수 밖에 없는데

아래 녀석의 암술머리가 12개이니 왜개연이 확실하다. 

해서 암술머리가 붉은색이니 남개연이라고 섣부르게 우기지도 못할 것이다
