열매도 귀엽지만 자잘한 꽃이 너무 앙징스러운 녀석들이다.
꽃은 양성화로서 4~5월에 피며 짧은 가지 끝에서 황록색으로 2~4개씩 아래를 향하여
산형으로 달린다.
일본매자나무와 거의 비슷하여 구분하기 어려운 당매자나무는 꽃이 총상으로 모여 피는 점이 일본매자나무와 다른 점이다.
