야호다~! 우연히도 이 귀한 애기담배풀도 담을 수가 있었다.
여름새우란에 취하여 정신 없이 셔터를 누르다가 두메탑꽃 같은 녀석과 눈맞춤에 들떠 있는데 멀리서 꽃동무가 부른다.
내가 잡초를 좋아하는 걸 아는 꽃동무가 이 녀석을 발견해 놓고 고맙게도 내게 보여주기 위하여 자리를 지켜주고 있다.
애기담배풀은 좀체 만나기 어려운 녀석으로 전라도 일부와 제주도 숲에서 드물게 보이는 희귀식물이라고 한다.
방석처럼 퍼진 로제트형 근생엽이 유난하게 눈에 들어 온다.

애기담배풀과 비슷한 천일담배풀도 개화할 때 까지 근생엽이 싱싱한데
애기담배풀은 근생엽에 깊은 결각성 물결성 톱니가 있지만 천일담배풀에는 톱니가 없는 점이 다르다.
근생엽은 개화 이후에도 남아 있으며 방석처럼 퍼지고 주걱같은 피침형이며 길이 6-15㎝, 나비 1.2-3cm로서
끝이 둔하거나 둥글고 밑으로 갈수록 좁아져서 엽병처럼 되며 가장자리에 불규칙한 톱니가 있고 연모가 밀생한다.
경생엽은 드문드문 달리고 도피침형이며 엽병이 없다.
두화는 가지와 원줄기 끝에 달리고 밑을 향해 1개씩 달리며 연한 노란색이다.
총포는 통형이고 길이 6.5mm, 지름 5mm로서 밑부분에 도란형의 포엽이 있거나 없다.
포편은 3줄로 배열되며 외편은 짧고 젖혀지며 중편은 긴 타원형으로서 끝이 둔하고 가장자리에 털이 있으며 내편은 선형이다.
높이 15-45cm이고 전체에 짧은 연모(軟毛)가 밀생한다.
총포는 종형으로 포편이 3열, 포엽은 거의 없고 꽃의 지름은 5mm로 담배풀 중에서 가장 작다.
근생엽 가장자리에 깊은 물결성 톱니가 있다.
