아직 국가표준식물 목록에 검색되지 않는다. 유럽 원산 귀화 식물이다.
꽃이 밤송이처럼 포실포실하게 화서를 이루고 있다. 꽃잎은 없고 꽃받침만 있단다.
카메라를 들이 대어도 수술이 보일 듯 말 듯 할 정도라 처음에는 꽃잎이 다 떨어지고 꽃받침만 남은 줄 알았다.
전초가 녹색을 띠고 있고 꽃도 녹색인데, 결실이 되면서 전초가 누렇게 변하는 것 같다.
누렇게 변한 꽃 하나를 떼어서 손가락 사이에 굴려 보니 땡글땡글한 것이 만져진다.
닥딱한 과피 속에 종자가 1개씩 들어 있단다. 아무튼 꽃동무 덕분에 재미있는 녀석을 만났다.
<젊은네> 꽃자루 거의 없음. 지름 2-3mm, 꽃받침 녹색. 꽃잎 없음. 수술 5개. 암술 1개.
꽃잎이 없으며 꽃받침이 녹색이고 가장자리가 흰색의 막질이다.
잎은 마주나기이고 탁엽은 없다. 줄기에 짧은 밀모가 있다.
가지를 많이 치고 가지는 방석처럼 옆으로 퍼진다. 큰 녀석은 전초 지름이 30cm 정도 된다.
