산초나무에 비해 잎이 상록성이며 엽축에 날개가 특징인 녀석은 남부지역 숲에서 쉽게 만날 수 있는 녀석이다.
제주도와 전라남북도에 흔하게 분포하며, 강원도 삼척, 경상남·북도, 충남의 해안을 따라 자생한다.
