꽃이 진 후 줄기가 벋어나가면서 잎 겨드랑이에 개체를 번식하기 위한 싹이 자란다.
이 녀석들은 주변의 나뭇가지에 줄기를 걸치고 있으면서도 잎겨드랑이에 새로운 개체들이 뿌리를 달고 착지를 기다리고 있다.
배추과라서 종자를 많이 생산하는데도 왜 이렇게 까지 번식에 욕심을 내는지 모르겠다.
줄기가 땅에 닿으면 뿌리를 내려서 독립을 준비한다.
이와 같이 개체번식을 하는 종이 더러 있는데
도루박이도 줄기 끝이 땅에 닿으면 뿌리를 내리고 새싹을 올려서 개체번식을 하고
초오속의 개싹눈바꽃도 잎겨드랑이와 줄기 끝의 살눈이 땅에 닿으면서 뿌리를 내려 개체번식을 한다.
아래의 개체들은 씨앗에서 싹이 튼 어린 개체이고
벌써 뿌리를 내린 어린 녀석들이다.
