왕과(박과 왕과속) 열매

간절하게 열매를 보고싶어 했더랬다.

암꽃을 피우는 곳을 알고 있었지만 강원도 먼 곳에다가 결실이 안 되는지 열매를 달아주지를 않았다.

더러 열매 사진이 검색이 되지만 정보를 알 수 없으니 볼 기회도 없었다.

 

헌데 점심 시간에 산책을 하다가 가까운 곳에 빨간 열매가 달린 걸 발견하고는 잠시 작은 충격을 받았다.

혹시나 다른 열매가 아닐까 하여 주변을 샅샅이 살펴 보니 왕과 덩굴이 말라서 풀과 나무에 엉겨 있는 게 한두 개체가 아닌 것 같다.

이렇게 가까이 왕과를 두고도 모르고 있었다는 게 참 어이가 없었다.

 

수꽃도 무수히 피었을 터인데.....분명 이 길을 몇 차례 오고 가며 살펴보기도 했었는데 왜 이 녀석 덩굴을 보지 못하였을까?

제초제를 쳐서 말라 죽은 덩굴이 뒤 늦게 다시 자라서 꽃을 피웠을까?

 

결실한 열매는 딱 한 개였고 늦게 달려서 결실하지 못한 두 개의 열매가 마른 줄기에 달려 있다.

내년에는 이 녀석 암꽃과 수꽃, 열매까지 편안하게 담을 수 있을 거라 생각하니 기대가 크다.
