좁은잎천선과/천선과나무(뽕나무과)

제주와 남부지역 해안에 사는 낙엽수이다. 꽃이 안 피는 무화과 알려져 있지만 사실 지금 이 상태가 꽃봉오리인 화낭이다.

조금 자라면 꼭지 부분이 열리고 열매를 갈라보면 그 속에 꽃이 들어 있다. 열매 모양이 유두를 닮아서 젖꼭지나무란 별병도 가지고 있다.

 

꽃은 암수딴그루로서 5-6월에 새가지의 엽액에서 1개의 화경이 자라고 끝에 3개의 포가 있으며 그 위에 둥근 화낭이 있다.  주머니 같은 화낭은 지름 15mm 내외로서 그 안에 많은 꽃이 들어 있으나, 꽃은 화낭에 싸여 볼 수 없다.

수꽃은 5-6개의 화피열편과 3개 정도의 수술이 있고 암꽃은 3-5개의 화피열편과 대가 있는 1개의 자방에 짧은 암술대가 있다.
