재작년인가? 제주도에서 갔을 때 뽑혀 있던 말똥비름을 가져왔다.
길 주변 공터며 성읍 민속촌 마을 길바닥에 지천으로 깔려 있던 녀석이다.
그 녀석이 잎 겨드랑이에 생기는 육아로 얼마나 번져대는지 이제는 쇠비름 수준으로 잡초화 되어 버렸다.
꽃이야 돌나물과 같은 모양이라 그리 특이하지는 않고 그냥 노랗게 무리지어 피면 봐 줄 만은 하다.
화경(花梗)이 없으며 원줄기 끝에서 가지가 갈라져서 취산화서가 발달하고 꽃이 한쪽으로 치우쳐서 달리며 꽃밑의 포엽이 1개씩 있다.
꽃받침잎은 녹색이고 긴 타원상 주걱형으로서 끝이 둔하고 크기가 각각 다르다.
꽃잎은 5개이며 피침형이고 길이 5mm정도로서 끝이 뾰족하다.
수술은 10개이며 꽃잎보다 짧고 심피는 5개로서 밑부분이 합생하며 비스듬히 서고 열매를 맺지 않는다.
잎은 원줄기 밑부분의 것은 대생하고 엽병이 짧으며 난형이지만 윗부분의 것은 호생하고 주걱형이며
밑부분이 점차 좁아져서 엽병이 없어지고 길이 10~15mm, 폭 2-4mm로서 끝이 둔하다.
꽃은 생식 기능으로서의 역할은 못하고 엽액에 생기는 2~3쌍의 잎이 달려있는 둥근 육아로 번식한다.
육아다.
꽃은 피지만 결실이 되지 않고 꽃으로서의 역할로 끝난다. 꽃이 진 잎 겨드랑이에 육아가 생긴다.
높이 7-22cm이며 전체가 부드럽고 약하며 원줄기 밑부분이 옆으로 뻗으면서 마디에서 뿌리가 내리고 털이 없다.
