꽃은 4-9월에 피며 지름 2-3mm로서 연한 하늘색이고
윗부분의 포 또는 엽액에 1개씩 달려 전체적으로 총상화서를 이룬다.
총상화서는 길며 끝이 말리지 않고 잎같은 포가 달리며 포엽은 길이 5-15(25)mm 이고
소화경은 액생하며 포엽보다 훨씬 짧고 꽃이 진 다음 밑으로 처진다.
꽃받침은 5개로 깊게 갈라지고 열편은 피침형으로서 과시에는 다소 커지며 끝이 뾰족하고 긴 털이 있다.
화관은 통부가 짧고 끝이 5개로 갈라져 수평으로 퍼지며 후부에 5개의 인편이 있다.
수술은 5개가 통부에 붙어 있으며 암술이 1개 있다.
높이 5-30cm이고 총생한다. 밑부분에서 많은 가지가 갈라져 비스듬히 땅을 기며 전체에 잔털이 밀생한다.
분과는 타원형이고 길이 1-5mm, 지름 1mm로서 혹같은 돌기가 밀생하며
착생면 주위가 밋밋하고 털이 있으며 꽃받침에 싸인다.
