층층나무(층층나무과 층층나무속) Cornus controversa Hemsl.

5월의 산자락은 나무꽃들이 향기를 가득 채우고 있었다.

가지가 층층으로 달리는 특징으로 이름을 얻었다

말채나 곰의 말채에 비하여 잎은 어긋나기이며 잎맥 수 말채나무보다 많다

잎측맥	6-9쌍	4~5쌍	6-10쌍
잎나기	어긋나기넓은 난형 또는 타원상 난형녹색이며 어릴때 복모가 약간 있고 뒷면은 백색으로서 잔털이 밀생	마주나기넓은 난형 또는 타원형표면에 복모가 약간 있으며 뒷면은 흰빛이 돌고 거센 복모가 있음	마주나기 타원형, 넓은 타원형, 넓은 난형잎 표면에 잔복모, 뒷면은 회백색으로 털이 많다.
엽병	3~5cm로 붉은빛이 돌고 털이 있으나 점차 없어짐	1~3cm	1-3㎝로서 털이 없다.
화서	햇가지 끝에 산방상	가지 끝에 취산화서	햇가지 끝의 원추상 산형화서
화경	1-3cm	1.5-2.5cm, 거센 털이 있음	3-4㎝로서 털이 없다.
어린가지	붉은 빛의 윤채가 나고 피목이 산재, 가지가 층층으로 남	붉은색, 소지에 털이 있으나 점차 없어진다.	털이 없고 황갈색 또는 적갈색 광택이 남
수피	수피가 평활하나 얕게 세로로 홈이 져서 터짐	흑갈색, 감나무 수피처럼 세로로 갈라짐	회갈색, 불규칙하게 세로로 갈라짐
