내 사는 곳 주변 연못이나 습지에서 드물게 만나는 녀석이다. 전초가 매우 가늘고 연약하여서 화서도 실처럼 가늘다.
| 습지에서 키 20~30cm 정도로 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 줄기는 연약하고 윗부분에서 가지가 갈리며 밑부분이 땅에 닿고 전체적으로 적갈색이 돈다. 잎은 넓은 선형 또는 피침형이며 길이 2~5cm, 너비 2~8cm로서 털이 없고 뒷면에 흔히 선점이 있다. 잎집 모양의 턱잎은 길이 5~10mm로서 거의 연모가 없으며 식물체는 마르면 적갈색으로 된다. 꽃은 8~9월에 피는데 줄기 윗부분의 잎겨드랑이와 원줄기 끝의 이삭꽃차례에 달린다. 꽃차례는 가늘고 길이 3~5cm로서 꽃이 드문드문 달리며 표면에 털이 없다. 화피는 붉은빛이 돌며 길이 1.5~1.8mm이다. 열매는 수과로서 렌즈형이고 검은색이며 윤채가 있다. 우리나라 경기도 수원 근처에 나며, 러시아 우수리, 일본, 중국 등에 분포한다. 이 종은 꽃차례의 줄기에 털이 없고 열매가 검은색으로 익는 점에서 겨이삭여뀌와 구분된다. 관상용으로 심는다. |
근연종으로 만주겨이삭여뀌가 있는데 벼들겨이삭여뀌와 달리 꽃차례가 줄기 끝에만 달린다.
