물억새(벼과 억새속) Miscanthus sacchariflorus (Maxim.) Benth. & Hool.f. ex Franch.

가까운 강 주변에 물억새 군락이 장관을 이루는 곳이 있다. 이 녀석들이 꽃밥을 늘어뜨리며 개화를 시작하였다.

소수 기반의 털이 풍성하고 길어서 화서가 유난히 흰 색을 강하게 띄는데

가을에는 물억새를 조망하는 산책길로 매우 정취가 있는 곳이다.

 

여기 뿐만 아니라 논둑에도 저수지 주변에도 도청  주변의 얕은 산자락까지 물억새가 대군락을 이루며 살고 있다.

억새와 달리 소수에 까락이 없고 소수 길이의 2~3배 긴 백색의 캘로스 털이 길고 풍성하여

멀리서 보면 화서 전체가 하얗게 보인다.

 

근경은 길게 뻗으며 대 군락을 이루고 엽초는 대개 털이 없으나 아래쪽의 것은 가끔 성긴 털이 있다.

 

소수의 2~3배 길이의 캘로스 털이 발달해 있다.
