황칠나무(두릅나무과 황칠나무속) 열매 Dendropanax trifidus (Thunb.) Makino ex H. Hara

황칠나무는 남부 해안 및 섬 지방에서 자라는 상록활엽수로 키가 15미터에 이른다.

껍질은 갈라지지 않아 매끄럽고 어린 가지는 녹색으로 윤기가 있다.

어린 유목의 잎은 처음에는 3~5개로 갈라지나 자라면서 긴 타원형에 톱니가 없는 잎이 난다.

 

수피에 상처가 나면 붉은 액이 흘러내리는데

이 붉은 액체가 가구나 갑옷 등에 황금색 칠을 하는 도료로 이용한다고 해서 황칠나무라 했다.
