양버들(버드나무과 사시나무속)Populus nigra L.

2017. 7. 초순.

 

어릴 적 시골집 앞을 흐르는 개천 방둑에는 양버들이 많이 서 있었다.

이른 봄에는 몰오르는 가지를 꺾어서 호드기를 만들며 놀았고

여름이면 개천 모래밭으로 늘어지는 그늘을 따라 소꼽놀이를 하며 유년 시절을 보냈다.

 

 저수지 못 둑이 높아지고 물을 다루는 시설이 많이 생기면서 집 앞 개천에는 여름이 되어도 물이 흐르지 않게 되자

이젠 그곳에 부들이며 달뿌리풀이 뒤덮고 있다. 곱던 모래밭은 이젠 먼 기억 속에만 남았다.

 

양버들은 성냥개비의 원료로 이용되어서 성냥공장으로 많이 팔려 나갔는데

몇 년 전까지 의성군에 명맥을 유지하던 성냥공장도 문을 닫고 아이랑 성냥통도 이젠 구경할 수 없다

 

비짜루 모양의 수형을 하고 있는데

 

 

잎이 마름모 모양이지만 햇가지에 달리는 잎은 이태리포푸라 처럼 삼각형 모양으로 나타나기도 한다
