유동(대극과 유동속) 열매 Vernicia fordii (Hemsl.) Airy Shaw

어리목으로 올라가다가 한라수목원 부근에 잠시 차를 세웠다. 

5월에 이 곳에서 유동 꽃을 담았는데 열매가 주렁주렁하기 때문이다.

 

사과만큼 커진다는 열매 안에 커다란 견과가 2개 들어 있는데 씨에서 추출하는 동유 때문에 상업적으로 귀하게 쓰이고 있다.

대극과에 속하는 아시아산 소교목으로 동양에서는 동유를 전통적으로 불을 밝히는 데 썼으며, 키가 7.5m까지 자라며 큰 잎은 갈라지기도 한다.

 

이 녀석은 암수한그루로 암꽃과 수꽃이 다른 단성화였다. 암수딴그루라면 일본유동이라고 한다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

비바람에 떨어진 열매를 주워 갈라보니 속에 커다란 씨앗이 2개 들어 있다.
