물푸레나무(물푸레나무과) Fraxinus rhynchophylla Hance

이 녀석 꽃을 보면 꼭 청소하는 먼지털이가 생각난다는

나뭇가지가 단단하여 도리깨 만드는데 사용했다고 한다.

 

키는 10m까지 자라지만, 가지가 많이 나오며 이들이 모여 자라기 때문에 관목처럼 보이기도 한다.

어린 가지는 회색빛이 도는 갈색이다. 잎은 마주나고 날개깃처럼 갈라져

5~7장의 잔잎으로 이루어졌으며 잔잎은 긴 난형(卵形)이다.

 

잎의 앞쪽은 초록색이며 털이 없으나 뒤쪽은 회색빛이 도는 초록색이고 주맥(主脈)에 털이 있다.

꽃은 5월에 암꽃과 수꽃이 따로따로 총상(總狀)꽃차례를 이루어 피는데,

때때로 암술과 수술이 모두 한 꽃에 피는 양성화(兩性花)로 피기도 한다.

 

꽃차례는 올해 만들어진 가지의 잎겨드랑이에서 나온다. 꽃받침은 4갈래로 갈라졌으며,

수꽃은 2갈래로 나뉜 수술과 꽃받침으로, 암꽃은 꽃잎 2~4장과 수술 및 암술로 되어 있다.(브레테니커백과)
