유동(대극과 유동속) Vernicia fordii (Hemsl.) Airy Shaw

중국 및 베트남 원산이며 관상용, 제유용으로 남부지역에 많이 심는다.

종자에서 짜낸 기름을 동유(桐油, tung oil)라 하여 등유, 가구나 장판의 도료 등으로 이용한다. 

 

잎의 크기와 형태가 이나무와 흡사하나 잎표면에 광택이 잇고 잎가장자리에 톱니가 없이 밋밋하다

 

꽃과 열매가 크다.  5월에 가지 끝의 원추꽃차례에 수꽃과 암꽃이 함께 핀다. 

꽃차례 아래쪽에 수꽃 여러 개가 달리고, 위쪽에 암꽃이 달린다.

열매는 핵과, 구형, 지름 4~6cm, 갈색으로 익으며, 3~4개의 씨가 들어 있다. 

 

잎자루는 길고 대가 없는 2개의 꿀샘이 있다
