이태 전 백두산에서 담아 왔던 대형의 꿩의다리 녀석을 바이칼꿩의다리로 올려 둔 적이 있다.

백두산에서 델꼬 온 녀석이라 당연히 바이칼꿩이라 생각을 하고서는 자세하게 살펴 볼 생각도 않고 말이다.

 

헌데 가끔 내게 날카로운 가르침을 주시는 꽃동무님께서

"그게 어디 바이칼이냐? 기냥 꿩의다리지. " 하고 지적이 들어 왔다.

"오잉? 무스기?"

 

어마 뜨거워라 싶어서 바이칼꿩과 그냥 꿩의다리에 대하여 다시 확인을 하게 되었는데

중요한 세 가지 포인트를 간과해 버렸다.

두 녀석은 잎차례와 탁엽과 열매의 모양에서 뚜렷하게 차이가 난다.

 

먼저 그 하나로 열매 모양이다.

꿩의다리 열매는 3-4개의 능선에 날개가 있으며 도란형 또는 타원형으로 길이 4-5mm의 열매자루가 있어서 아래로 달랑달랑 늘어지고 바이칼꿩은 열매는 넓은 타원형이며 8맥이 있고 0.3mm정도의 짧은 대가 있는 동그란 형태의 열매이다

 

꿩의다리 열매를 보면 아래처럼 날개를 가진 능선이 있고 아래로 늘어진다

꿩의다리 꽃은 제대로 접사한 게 없어서 암술과 자방의 상태를 확실하게 파악하지 못하지만

수술이 풍성하고 자방의 대가 좀 길다.

 

바이칼꿩의다리 꽃과 열매이다. 

둥근 타원형의 자방이 확연히 드러나고 수술이 엉성하게 어울려 있다.

수술의 길이와 자방의 크기의 비를 보면 바이칼이 수술의 길이가  짧은 게 아닌가 싶다

 

바이칼은 열매가 둥근 구형이고 열매의 대는 매우 짧다

 

헌데 나는 백두산에서 담아온 이 녀석을  바이칼꿩의다리라고 생각하고 있었다.

단지 백두산에서 담았다는 한 가지 이유만으로 말이다. 

열매를 살펴보면 위의 바이칼꿩과는 전혀 다르고 꿩의다리 열매와 같은 모양을 하고 있다.

또 한 가지는 탁엽이다.

바이칼은 탁엽이 막질로 아주 잘게 갈라진 모양을 하고 소탁엽은 없는데

꿩의다리는 탁엽과 소탁엽이 있고 탁엽이 잘게 갈라지지 않고 뒤로 말린다

꿩의다리의 탁엽은 거의 막질로서 한 두 곳의 터짐이 있지만 둥근 형태를 하면서 뒤로 말리고 있다.

소엽병이 갈라지는 곳마다 작은 소탁엽이 형성되어 있다.

바이칼꿩의다리의 탁엽은 막질로 털실처럼 아주 잘게 갈라진 모양을 하고 소탁엽은 없다

 

세 번째로 잎 모양에서도 차이가 있다.

꿩의다리잎은 2~3회 깃꼴겹잎인데 바이칼꿩의다리는 2~3회 3출 복엽으로 다르다

꿩의다리 잎이다. 꿩의다리 잎은 전체가 삼각형을 이루며 2-3회 깃꼴겹잎이다.

 

나처럼 백두산에서 담아 왔다고 하는 바이칼꿩의다리로 올려진 것들을 살펴 보면 대부분 꿩의다리다.

자료를 담아 와서는 도감을 보고 최종 확인을 해서 정리해야 하는데

그러려니 하고 가볍게 생각하다가는 이런 잘못된 정보를 제공하는 오류를 범하기 쉽다는 걸 다시 한 번 돌아보게 되었다
