2017년 아시아태평양생물다양성 저널을 통해서 남방꿩의다리 존재가 발표되었다.
제주의 숲에 자생하고 있던 이 녀석이 여태 중국에만 자생하고 있고 국내에서는 자생하지 않는 것으로 알려져 있던
꿩의다리속 Thalictrum acutifolium이라는 게 확인이 되었다고 한다.

산꿩의다리에 비하여 줄기잎이 어긋나며 줄기 포복지가 있다는 점에서 산꿩의다리와 구분이 된다
