쇠서=쇠+서=소+혀=소의혀

아마 소 혓바닥처럼 서거서걱 거칠다는 뜻을 가지고 있다는 것일 게다.

 

요사이는 트랙타며 경운기로 모든 농사일을 해결하지만 내 어릴 적만 해도 황소는 달구지를 끌거나 밭이나 논을 갈 때 중요한 일꾼으로 집집마다 한 마리씩 기르고 있었다. 학교를 파하고 돌아 오면 친구들과 강변에 멱을 감거나 모래밭에서 소꼽을 놀았는데 가끔씩 소를 데리고 둑방으로 풀먹이러 나가곤 하였다. 황소가 길다란 혀를 내밀어 쑥이며 강아지풀이며 명아주 줄기를 휘감아 먹는 것을 보면 참 힘도 세다는 생각을 했었다.

아부지가 소의 혓바닥을 빼 잡고서 병든 소에게 약을 먹이는데 소 고삐를 잡고서 움직이지 못하게 도와 드린 적이 있다.

그 때 본 소 혓바닥의 돌기는 정말 대단하였다는 기억이 있다.

 

이 쇠서나물도 그 소 혓바닥처럼 줄기와 잎 뒷면의 강모로 매우 거친 촉감을 느낄 수 있다.

그래서 쇠서나물이란 이름을 얻었음이 분명하다.

근디 난 소 혓바닥을 만져 본 적이 없다. ㅎ...

 

 

총포는 통상 종형이며 길이 10-11mm, 지름 8-9mm로서 녹색이고 검은빛이 돌며

포편은 2줄로 배열되고 내편은 길이 8-12mm로서 뒷면에 털이 있으며 외편은 짧다.

 

 

 

 

경생엽은 호생하며 밑부분의 것은 도피침형이고 예두 또는 둔두이며 길이 8-22cm, 나비 1-4cm로서 밑부분이 좁아져서 엽병의 날개로 되고 중앙부의 것은 엽병이 없으며 길이 6-12cm, 나비 9-40mm이고 윗부분의 것은 선상 피침형으로서 밑부분이 원줄기를 얼싸안는다.

 

 

 

 

 

높이가 90cm에 달하고 줄기는 곧게서며 기부는 자홍색을 띠고 윗부분에서 다소 가지를 내며 전체에 갈고리 끝으로 가닥난 갈색의 거센털이 있어 잎은 옷에 잘 붙는다.
