쇠서나물이 마치 제 철처럼 꽃이 싱싱하다.
잎의 앞 뒷면에 거센 털이 나 있어서 마치 소의 혓바닥 같다고 하여
소의 혀 즉 쇠서처럼 서걱서걱 한다고...해서 쇠서나물이라 한단다.
소 혓바닥이 그렇게 거친지는 만져보지 않아서 모르겠다만
뭐 그렇다고들 하니 그도 틀린 말은 아닌 듯 하다.
총포는 통상 종형이며 길이 10-11mm, 지름 8-9mm로서 녹색이고 검은빛이 돌며 포편은 2줄로 배열된다
줄기가 붉고, 줄기와 잎맥 가장자리에 거센 털이 있다.
