사진을 담는 중에 잎을 스치니 박하 향이 난다. 꿀풀과 여러해살이풀로 줄기뿌리로 번식을 한다.

이 녀석도 한번 들여 놓으면 온 밭을 점령해 버릴 정도로 번식을 해서 관리가 만만치 않다.

잎은 대생하고 긴 타원형이며 양끝이 좁고 길이 2-5cm, 나비 1-2.5cm로서

양면에 유점과 털이 약간 있으며 가장자리에 톱니가 있고 엽병은 길이 3-10mm이다.

높이가 50cm에 달하고 줄기는 둔한 사각이 지며 전체에 짧은 털이 나고 곧게 서며 가지가 갈라진다.

꽃은 7~9월에 피며 연한 자주색이고 윗부분과 가지의 엽액에 윤산화서로서 밀집하며 꽃받침보다 짧은 소화경이 있다.

꽃받침은 종형이며 녹색이고 길이 2.5-3mm로서 끝이 5개로 갈라지며 열편은 가장자리에 퍼진 털이 있고 끝이 뾰족하다.

화관은 통형(筒形)이며 길이 4-5mm로서 4개로 갈라지고 4개의 수술이 있으며 화주는 끝이 2갈래로 갈라진다.
