인동덩굴(인동과 인동속) Lonicera japonica Thunb.

어려움을 견디고 꿋꿋하게 살아가는 사람을 인동초 같다 라고 한다. 

인동덩굴이 겨울에도 푸른 잎을 달고 취위를 이겨낸다고 해서 이를 빗대어 말하는 것이다.

 

이 녀석은 긴 화관을 가진 백색 꽃을 피우는데 꽃이 수정이 되면 황금색으로 바뀐다.

화기도 길어서 오랜 기간 꽃을 피우는데 노란색과 흰색의 꽃이 함께 보인다고 해서 금은화로 부르기도 했다.

옛 건축물이나 고분 벽화, 도자기 등의 문화재에는 인동덩굴 무늬 그림이 많이 나오는데 이를 당초문이라고 한다.
