미국실새삼(메꽃과 새삼속) Cuscuta compestris Yunck.

아무한테나 치근덕 엉겨붙어서 진을 쪽쪽 빨아먹고 사는 기생식물이다

땅에서 싹이 트지만 줄기가 숙주식물을 완전하게 감아서 흡착을 할 준비가 되면 뿌리는 미련 없이 잘라 버린다.

줄기를 통해서 영양을 얻을 수 있기 때문이다.

 

집 마당 꽃밭에 이 녀석이 나타나서 며칠 전 전지가위를 들고 층층잔대 줄기며 참골무꽃을 마구 잘랏다

이미 씨알이 떨어져 있거나 풀에 남은 줄기에 씨알이 있어서 내년에도 나타날 거다.
