미선나무(물푸레나무과)

이른 봄 잎도 없이 미색의 개나리같은 꽃을 피던 녀석이 부채 같은 열매를 달았다.

 

열매가 푸를 때는 숲이 우거져서 접근을 못하였는데 혹시나 하여 엉긴 으름덩굴을 헤치고 들어갔다.

아무리 살펴도 열매가 보이지 않기에 그냥 내려 오려는데 부채가 보인다. 딱 두 군데 열매가 남아 있었다. ㅎㅎ..눈이 보배다.

 

이 녀석은 개나리처럼 휘어진 가지가 땅에 닿으면 뿌리를 내린다. 주변에도 늘어진 가지에서 뿌리가 내린 게 보인다.

한국특산식물로 보호종이니 함부로 캐 가면 안된다. 굳이 가까이 두고 보고 싶다면 가기를 잘라와서 심으면 집에서도 충분히 꽃을 볼 수 있다.

  

 

열매는 시과(翅果)로 9~10월에 익는데 동전처럼 넓적하여 동그란 부채처럼 생겼으며,

길이와 너비가 모두 2.5㎝ 정도이고 열매 끝이 움푹 들어가 있다. 씨는 열매 양쪽에 1개씩 들어 있다.

4월 중순의 꽃이다. 

꽃부리가 4갈래로 갈라지고 생김새는 개나리와 비슷하며 향기 나는 흰 꽃이 피므로 영어로는 'White Forsythia'라고 부른다.

둥그런 열매가 마치 부채처럼 생겼다고 해서 한국에서는 미선(美扇 또는 尾扇)나무로 부르기도 한다.

 

 

잎은 난형으로 마주나기다. 키는 1m가량이며 보라색을 띠는 가지는 네모지고 밑으로 처진다.
