회화나무(콩과)

중국에서는 회화나무를 상서로운 나무의 하나로 매우 귀히 여겼다.

주나라 때 조정에는 세 그루의 회화나무를 심었는데, 이는 우리 나라의 삼정승에 해당되는

삼공(三公)을 상징할 정도로 귀한 나무로 여겼기 때문이다. 과거에 급제하면 회화나무를 심었다고 하며,

관리가 벼슬을 얻어 출세한 후 관직에서 퇴직할 때면 기념으로 심는 것도 회화나무였다고 한다.

 

어린 가지는 잎 색깔과 같은 녹색이 특징이며 나이를 먹으면 나무 껍질은 세로로 깊게 갈라진다.

잎은 아카시아와 아주 비슷하게 생겼으나 끝이 점점 좁아져서 뾰족해진다.

꽃은 가지의 끝에 여러 개의 원뿔모양 꽃대에 복합하여 달리며 늦여름에 연한 노랑꽃이 핀다.

수도리전통마을 입구에 오래된 회화나무 한 그루가 벌써 꽃잎을 떨구고 있었다.
