물박달나무(자작나무과 자작나무속) Betula davurica Pall.

큰산, 큰 계곡에 가야 녀석을 만날 수 있었는데

박달나무와 함께 참 오랜만에 녀석을 들여다 본다.

 

수피가  회갈색이고 얇은 조각으로 너덜너덜 떨어지며 

잎은 어긋나며, 난형 또는 타원형으로 길이 4~8cm, 폭 3~6cm, 끝은 뾰족하다.

잎맥 위에 털이 있고, 측맥은 6~8쌍이다. 잎자루에 털이 있다.

 

꽃은 5월에 암수한그루에 핀다. 수꽃이삭은 원통 모양으로 길이 6~7cm, 밑으로 처진다. 

암꽃이삭은 가지 끝과 잎겨드랑이에서 곧추선다. 열매이삭은 원통 모양으로 길이 2~4cm, 폭 1cm 정도이다

박달나무에 비해 잎에 불규칙한 톱니가 있으며 측맥은 6~8쌍이고, 열매에 날개가 있으므로 구별된다.
