줄기는 높이1m가지 자라며 줄기는 매끈하고 엽초와 잎 양면에 짧은 털이 많다.
소수에 털이 없고 까락이 길다.
호영은 5~7개의 맥이 있고, 길이 20~25mm이며 끝이 두 갈래로 갈라지고 길이 2.5~4.0cm의 까락이 달린다.
털빕새귀리에 비하여 소수에 털이 없다
잎 양면에 잔털이 빽빽하다
엽설은 길이 3~5mm이고 끝이 거치가 있다.
