이 녀석이 새롭게 발표된 미국풀솜나물이다.
제주도에서 만난 녀석들 중에 자주로 보기에도 애매하고
선풀솜나물로 보기에도 마뜩하지 않던 타잎이 있었는데
그 녀석이 바로 미국풀솜나물이었던 것이다.
자주풀솜나물 처럼 줄기 위쪽의 잎도 주걱형이지만
화서가 줄기 끝에 밀집하는 자주풀솜나물과 달리 이 녀석은 줄기 아래 잎겨드랑이 까지 길게 수상화서처럼 꽃을 단다.
개화 시 뿌리잎은 시들고 자주풀솜나물에 비하여 잎 뒷면의 백색 털이 적은 편이다.
