현재 생물자원관이 운영하는 포털시스템에는 포천구절초는 없고 가는잎구절초로 정리되어 있는데.

2021. 3. 국가표준식물목록에는 가는잎구절초가 포전구절초 이명으로 처리되어 있다.

 

본 분류군은 잎이 우상으로 더 깊게 갈라지고 두상꽃차례가 작은 점에서 구절초(D. zawadskii var. latilobum (Maxim.) Kitam.)와 구분되고, 갈라진 잎 조각이 선형인 점에서 도피침형인 산구절초(D. zawadskii var. zawadskii)와 구분된다. 잎이 두꺼우나 육질이 아닌 점에서 울릉도에만 자라는 울릉국화(D. zawadskii var. lucidum (Nakai) J. H. Pak)와 구분할 수 있다. 그러나 본 분류군이 포함된 구절초 종류는 우리나라에 앞에서 언급한 가는잎구절초를 비롯해 구절초, 산구절초, 울릉국화가 변종들로 각각 처리되어 있는데 이들뿐만 아니라 한라구절초(D. koreanum (H. Lév. & Vaniot) Vorosch.) 등을 포함해 우리나라와 주변 동아시아 지역의 구절초 종류에 대한 자세한 분류학적 연구가 필요하다. 한편, 구절초 무리는 줄기의 끝에 달리는 두상꽃차례가 1개에서 수개밖에 없는 특징이 있고 산국 무리는 두상꽃차례가 20개 이상으로 많이 달리는 특징이 있어 이를 바탕으로 두 무리를 구분할 수 있다. 본 분류군은 구절초속(Chrysanthemum)에 흔히 분류하는데 최근의 한국식물지(Flora of Korea Editorial Committee, 2007)와 중국식물지(Flora of China)에서는 열매에 날개가 없다는 점을 들어 산국속을 구절초속과 다른 독립된 속으로 구분 짓는다. 민간에서는 결핵, 기관지염, 인두염, 기침, 월경 불순 등의 부인병에 약으로 쓰이는데 자세한 연구가 필요하다(Macdonald 1997; Rahman and Moon 2007).
