여뀌바늘(바늘꽃과)Ludwigia prostrata Roxb.

논이나 물도랑 근처 습지에 사는 여뀌바늘은 호흡뿌리를 가지고 있다.

호흡뿌리는 공기 중에 뿌리를 뻗어 호흡하는 것으로, 흔히 숨뿌리라고 한다.

수목원에서 땅위로 혹처럼 불룩 불룩 솟아오른 낙우송의 뿌리를 보고 참 신기해 했던 적이 있는데

바로 공기 중의 산소를 취하기 위한 호흡뿌리였던 것이었다. 맹그로브 나무도 이런 호흡뿌리를 가지고 있다 한다.
