줄기에 얼룩무늬가 있다 그래서 점박이란 이름을 얻었겠지.
이 녀석은 오름 숲 그늘에서 가장 흔하게 만날 수 있다.
자웅이주로서 5~6월에 피며 육수화서이고 정생한다. 화경은 길이 5-20cm이다.
불염포는 윗부분이 약간 자줏빛이 돌며 통부가 녹색이고 길이는 5cm 내외이며 구연(口緣)이 밖으로 말린다.
잎은 2개이고 첫째 잎은 길이 5-15cm의 엽병이 있으며 소엽은 5-14개로서 긴 타원형 또는 도란형이고
중앙열편은 길이 8-20cm, 나비 1.5-4cm로서 끝이 뾰족하며 밑부분이 예저이다.
