곡마단의 어릿광대는 재미 있는 분장으로도 사람들을 웃기지만
하얀 동그라미가 그려진 위 아래가 붙은 빨간 옷은 어릿광대의 트레이드 마크다.
그 옷의 목도리 부분을 보면 레이스 장식이 유별나다. 손목과 발목에도 그런 레이스가 붙어 있다.
식물 이름 중에 <광대>란 이름이 붙은 게 있다. 광대나물, 광대수염. 광대싸리...
접두어 <광대>는 꽃차례 모양이 어릿광대의 옷차림을 연상하여 지은 이름이다. 누가 그렇게 말하지 않았지만 그럴 거다.
4월 20일 경인데 제주에는 벌서 광대수염이 흐드러지게 피고 있었다.
어릿광대의 목도리 레이스처럼 줄기를 감싸듯이 둘러 싸서 하얗게 꽃을 피우고 있는 광대수염.
저렇게 크게 입을 벌리고 무얼 노래 하고 있을까?
꽃받침이 마치 수염처럼 길게 빠져 있다. 그래서 수염이란 이들도 얻었겠지.
꽃은 5월에 피며 연한 홍색 또는 백색으로서 엽액에 5-6개씩 달리므로 윤생한 것처럼 보인다.
꽃받침은 종형이며 길이 13-18mm로서 5개로 갈라지고 열편은 삼각상 선형으로 끝이 날카로우며 가장자리에 털이 난다.
